Welcome to the Garage

The evolution of Carlo’s Garage Winery is one of the many great Pittsburgh stories.

When prohibition became law, Domenico Iasella was newly arrived from Abruzzi and was not to be denied his wine. So what did he do?

He began making his own wine right in the basement of his auto repair shop at 2022 Penn Avenue, in the heart of the Strip District of Pittsburgh.

Carlo his son, inherited both the auto repair shop and the taste for his father’s wine making and after 75 years, we have transformed this once mechanic’s garage into the winery/cafe and epicurean bakery it is today.

Our wine is made in small batches every year and with only a limited number of bottles, we are able to personally select our grapes from vineyards across California and Chile.

So please come enjoy Pittsburgh’s first urban winery, Carlo’s Garage Winery.

About Carlo's Wine

We are located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District and this is Carlo’s Garage. Wine has been made in this garage since prohibition with all the tricks of the trade being passed along from generation to generation. The six of us: Larry, Maureen, Sharon, Jordan, Albert, & Vera have decided that enough is enough! The spirit that drove the old winemakers is the same spirit that drives us today. We are tired of keeping everything to ourselves and we want to share our bounty with the people of Pittsburgh!

So here it is, “Carlo’s Garage Winery,” the City of Pittsburgh’s first urban winery.

We create our wine with the best ingredients available and are proud to be Pittsburgh’s first urban winery. We hope you enjoy experiencing the wine as much as we enjoyed creating it. Salute!
